Alex's first day of summer vacation ever starts today. It's 3:30 a.m. now, so it starts whenever she wakes up, that is ...
About two days ago, I got a little nervous about how she'd fill her days, and I felt really guilty and very sad that I wouldn't be around each day to enjoy her. I'll still be at work each day, so I'm going to miss this opportunity. So, I guess in an attempt to: 1) feel involved and 2) provide a little structure, I asked if she still wanted to play school each day during the summer. She said yes!
We created a little workstation at the kitchen table with an in/outbox. The plan is to make a schedule each day (complete with the ever-important checkboxes), which is quite liberal, IMO. Her "school" time is actually only from 9 to 10 a.m. The rest of the day is pretty open, with a 30-minute block in the afternoon for picking up the day's mess/reading time. I basically wrote down the same basic schedule we follow any day she's home, but for some reason, putting it on a calendar makes it all seem more productive.
I told her we'd take it a day at a time and adjust the sked as needed. Check back with me tonight ...
