Alex graduated today, June 1, from kindergarten at Amos Elementary. It was perfect, and I almost made it to the end without crying. Then, 60 precious kindergarteners starting singing "Baby of Mine" by Kenny Loggins, and used sign language as well. They then sang, "What a Wonderful World." Each one of them did great.
Alex received several awards, and she was one of four finalists for the Elizabeth Amos Award, given each year to one student in each grade. And Gerald and I even got our own awards, for volunteering. I actually think it was the most-deserved award I've ever gotten. I loved helping in the little ways I could. But I have loved this school year, and Alex's teachers, Ms. Parra and Mrs. Harris, are just the best. I cannot thank them enough ... yet another reminder that teachers' rewards just cannot be measured in dollars (although they should get the chance to find out for themselves!)
Alex thought that after graduation, she was done for the year. She was a little bummed when she found out that she actually had 3 more days to go ... I tried to reassure her that this week will be nothing but fun. Did any of us do anything productive during the last week of school? However, it was better than last year at pre-K graduation -- she thought she was done with school forever.
Photos soon ... I'm still wearing my button with Alex's graduation photo. Isn't that what moms are supposed to do?
