I haven't blogged since Labor Day? Sorry. Alex and I went camping for the second time this past weekend out at the Girl Scout Camp near Glen Rose (Texas). It was a little chilly; our cabins had no heat. Yet, they did have doors and walls and windows, which is more than we got on our first camping trip on Halloween weekend (it was pretty cold then in our tarp "cabins" with drafty wooden plank floors). Alex and I pushed together our beds, consolidated our sleeping bags and blankets and were quite cozy.
Wild hogs have migrated out to the campgrounds, so we heard them at night. And wouldn't you know it, we always had to visit the bath house at about 3 a.m. (darn that hot chocolate!). So, we would bundle up, and I'd make the loudest ruckus possible, waving my flashlight, trying to scare away any snouted critter who might look to do us harm. Someone told me they were small and harmless; yet my friend who lives on the opposite side of DFW said the wild hogs who vacated her land for a while were huge and not harmless. I don't know who to believe. So I'm sure I woke everyone else up, but I didn't care. And Alex, who was oblivious to the hogs (otherwise, she'd have never left the cabin), kept telling me to be quiet, which of course, I couldn't or the hogs would get us. I'll have to explain that to her one day when she's old enough to understand.
We are prepping for Christmas. Alex was excited to go to Oklahoma. Then we put the tree up. She took one look at the finished product, pondered (not sure on what), then announced that she wanted to be home on Christmas morning. I have my guess as to why, but I'm not gonna push it. She has her reasons. We'll see how it turns out.
For Christmas, she has asked for many things, but included on her actual list are a motorized kiddie car, a "metteim side kid club huse," a doll that looks like her classmate Kelly, penguin earmuffs (check) and a Build a Bear armoire (check).
Everything else is a-OK for now.
