Aug. 23, 2010 - Alex went back to school today. She had some anxiety yesterday, but once she walked in the school this morning and saw that all the other kids came back too, she was OK. She starts 2nd grade, and she was happy to see that her kindergarten BFF Camille is in her class this year. And once again, it looks like the boys heavily outnumber the girls. I'm not too worried about that, too. It also happened in kindergarten and 1st, and as it turned out, the girls became good friends and no cliques.
Alex's birthday was on the 15th, and after a year-plus of asking, she got a puppy. His name is Benjamin, and he is cute! After Baxter died last year, and Nona earlier this summer, we were down to one dog, Peaches. So she went from the youngest of three to the oldest of two in a pretty short time. However, it's been nice getting to know Peaches. After six years, I'd never really spent quality time with her. And now that Alex is older, she's been a great help with both dogs. I think our new family unit is going to work out pretty well.
For Alex's birthday, had a nice cookout and swimming with family and friends. Alex's summer has been so fun for her! She got to know cousins and aunts and uncles that she didn't know well, and it has made for the best summer for her! I hope she made lots of good memories. That along with lots of swimming, birthdays, activities and some great visits up to Oklahoma really made summer fly by.
Girl Scouts started back up last week with a cookout. We have lots of activities planned, so should keep us nice and busy, along with everything else. I'm looking forward to a new year and waiting for the fall weather to catch up.
